Skincare In The Time of Corona-Hyperpigmentation

~I will be doing series of these to help address at home skincare treatment options right now, for people struggling with different areas of concern. I am skipping ahead and bypassing what each condition is and the science behind how it is caused, etc. and assuming my readers know their skin type in advance. You’re welcome to email me directly if you have any questions.
Happy self-loving!~

In office, a lot of laser treatments out right now will almost completely fix, rather than help, skin discoloration. But they can also require a lot more downtime and pain than one wants or even requires for their particular level of damage. Additionally, treatments are expensive + we are all trapped in house jail so…For at home care:

Focus on acids, such as glycolic, lactic or malic, for cellular turnover, vitamin c to brighten & sunblock to prevent further damage-use this even while inside, windows & computer blue light, do more damage than you may think. Niacinamide is powerhouse for hyperpigmentation repair, so fitting that in anywhere you can, is a good move. I also like it as it can treat existing breakouts & fine lines at the same time. Retinol, a vitamin A derivative, has long been the gold standard for anti-aging, hitting every checkbox for repairing and preventing the signs of aging, discoloration and brown spots along with it. I list it last only because, you may discover, it will already be symbiotically paired/added into nearly every product you’ll look at with any of the aforementioned ingredients.
I mention ingredients rather than products* as labels can be misleading. Finding which combination of products works for you specifically is going to be contingent on other skin and lifestyle factors, besides hyper-pigmentation repair exclusively. When selecting your products, read reviews, make sure the “active” ingredient is high up on the label, and that there are as few ingredients as possible. Organic is great, but not the end all, be all. Shelf stability matters, especially with vitamin c, which is super unstable, so make sure to check on that in reviews and packaging.
Add a dermaroller to your routine to help with product penetration and collagen regeneration. Aside from that though, be very gentle with skin, no scrubbing, no hot water, aggression can trigger further stress responses which actually exacerbate the body’s stress response & doesn’t allow skin to heal & repair.
Invest in a good pillow case, drink as much green tea (to protect from free radical damage from the inside out) and water as you can & be very nice to yourself.

Hey. Nice face💗‬
