Someone recently posted a comment on a forum where I had shared news of my most recent special. He was speaking on behalf of those not included directly in the recent influx of tech professionals in Seattle. The city is indeed becoming greatly gentrified and with growth comes a shift in economics. Having been a seattle resident for 12 years and a practitioner long before Amazon had its way with downtown rents, I am sympathetic. Here is my response:
I fully appreciate this sentiment. Honestly, my rates are set with very specific intentions, goals and needs in mind. Whenever I’m doing especially well is when I’m most likely to offer specials. I believe what I offer is something everyone should be able to have in their lives and want to make my time and offerings as accessible as possible.
That said, I won’t lie about my eyebrows being raised at some newcomers rates. I’ve always been a vocal supporter of a lady charging whatever she wants & we all know the marker will bear what it can bear and adjust itself accordingly.
My rates are based on the fact I keep a private condo apart from my home, just for playtime, for the convenience and comfort of my gentlemen friends-and it’s darned expensive. I don’t share it with a ton of people to eliminate the possibility of being indiscreet with a large number of guests coming and going. I have always been very very low volume, never taking more than one gfe appointment to ensure my attention and self are wholly focused on whomever I am seeing.
Lastly, and with all due humility… I’ve been doing this a number of years and am exceptionally good at-and present in-what I offer. I’ve earned the right to charge what I do. It’s a matter of math and rewarding myself for my skills and time//not ego or greed.
Having given some idle thought to this scenario, I’d probably still keep my practice on the side should a winning lottery ticket ever come my way. It is rewarding to me for my own reasons & having specials that allows me to meet people I might not have otherwise, is so fantastic.
*please note, that in stating my personal methods, standards and preferences for how I choose to entertain-I am not imposing judgement of those who do things differently. We all have our own ways & will find like minded people in going about them.
With light & love,
